Job Description
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform welding tasks effectively using FCAW and GMAW in horizontal and vertical positions.
- Read and interpret basic engineering drawings
- Heat form and dress metal parts using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment
- Properly process necessary information on production routers
- Perform assigned tasks under the direction of supervisor
- Bring technical problems encountered to supervisor
- Responsible for using safe working practices and for the safe operation of welding machines and equipment
- Work to improve efficient to achieve productivity and delivery goals
- Work at organizing and maintaining personal and company tools, equipment, and work area in a professional manner.
- Responsible to follow all applicable company and corporate policies, procedures, and programs, including but not limited to the process map, support processes, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Must have a minimum of one year experience with proficient in the welding field, with related experience in operation of welding equipment available in fabrication department, use of a cutting torch, and plasma torch, SMAW and GMAW welding processes, competent reading, and interpretation of fabrication blueprints, lay out and fit up of weldments and / or inspection of weldments.

Overview
Cummings Electrical's manufacturing facility located in Hurst, Texas is looking for a Lead Welder.
The Lead Welder must be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding and fabrication equipment. This includes operation of manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, cutting / drilling equipment, iron workers, and brakes to build assemblies.
This is a working lead role, and the position will include daily weld / fab work along with department-level leadership tasks such as assigning work based on the production schedule, meeting deadlines, and ensuring department materials are accounted for.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of welding experience
2+ of leadership responsibilities
Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
Understanding of how / when different types of welds are used based on material type, structural criteria, and assembly end-use.
Understand priorities communicated by supervisor and run department schedule based on manpower and assembly build times.
Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
Basic computer skills :
Capable of running updated scheduling reports, ensuring department work transactions are completed correctly, and basic use of Microsoft Office suite.

Position Summary :
The Welder Assistant is responsible for safely performing welding techniques on various TRWD projects, assisting Welder I, II on more complex welding projects and keeping the equipment and work areas in clean and in good working order.
The Welder Assistant works as part of a team to assist with other duties such as vegetation maintenance, structure inspection and repair, and manual labor.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Weld components in flat and vertical positions
Operate safety equipment, use safe work habits and maintain a clean, organized work environment
Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals
Operate a oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutter, or carbon arc gouger
Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment
Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers.
Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter
Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools
Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors
Clean or degrease parts, using wire brushes, portable grinders, or chemical baths
Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments
Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary to complete work
Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies
Mix and apply protective coatings to products
Perform data entry on work orders and for time-keeping
Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel
Perform maintenance and inspections of floodgates, dam and spillway structures
Perform general maintenance of TRWD structures and grounds including pipeline and floodway
Assist operations crew with special events
