Cyber Security Analyst
Description :
Under limited direction and supervision, the Security Analyst is responsible for all cyber security aspects within Kern Health Systems (KHS) including design, implementation, configuration, control, maintenance, troubleshooting, usage, the broadcast and enforcement of security standards, and other work as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Incumbents are expected to be proficient in the OSI model and all networking protocols, network firewall security, network analysis and design, network application configuration and integration, telecommunication services and technologies, organizational techniques, network security design and administration, network hardware backup and disaster recovery, and related processes used in the KHS Information Technology Department.
The Security Analyst is expected to maintain a conversational familiarity with current technologies and processes of the profession and is expected to provide leadership among the staff of the department.
Incumbent may be varied and widely dispersed and requires organization, scheduling, supervision abilities, and may prepare and conduct formal training programs as required.
Essential Functions
Performs technical support in the administration and maintenance of security software and hardware including firewalls, network security devices, internet connectivity, VPN, and all other related information for security hardware or software.
Architects, designs, implements, maintains and operates information system security controls and countermeasures.
Analyzes and recommends security controls and procedures in acquisition, development, and change management lifecycle of information systems, and monitors for compliance.
Monitors information systems for security incidents and vulnerabilities; develops monitoring and visibility capabilities;
reports on incidents, vulnerabilities, and trends.
Advises organization management and develops and executes plans for compliance and mitigation of risk; performs risk and compliance self-assessments and engages and coordinates third-party risk and compliance assessments.
Develops and administers, or provides advice, evaluation, and oversight for, information security training and awareness programs.
Install, implement, and monitor security software to protect the organizations sensitive information and to assist users with security procedures.
Install, implement, and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information.
Identify and define system security requirements.
Perform periodic security scans of networks to identify vulnerabilities.
Perform or manage periodic security vulnerability or penetration testing.
Design computer security architecture and develop detailed cyber security designs.
Prepare, document, and audit standard security operating procedures and protocols.
Develop technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
Ensure that the Cyber Security Committee is effectively communicated to when possible about security incidents.
Write comprehensive reports including assessment, based findings, outcomes, and proposals for system security enhancements.
Conducts detailed analysis of defined systems and system specifications.
Maintain internet security using network firewalls, internet content filtering software, intrusion prevention systems, and other current network security techniques.
Monitor WAN and LAN connectivity using network traffic analysis software and firewall logs.
Analyze Microsoft Active Directory for network user authentication, group polices, and network security.
Install, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot all KHS networking hardware and software to include the IOS upgrades, firewall updates, and internet content filters.
Administer the Corporate messaging system (Microsoft Exchange), secure email, and anti-spam software.
Create and maintain documentation for the physical and logical network, disaster recovery efforts, and other areas as needed.
Monitor all system and network logs for security vulnerabilities and risks to include : routers, switches, intrusion detection, VPN access, firewalls, and other software or hardware as needed.
Resolves elevated Help Desk incidents, change management requests, or problem tickets as assigned.
Work as, or with, a Project Manager on project cost, resource estimation, tasking, and timely project completion.
Work and communicate effectively with the various professionals throughout the organization.
Conducts educational exercises for other team members, or departments, in accordance with procedures formulated by management.
Provides assistance and redundancy to the Systems Administrator as needed.
Write or modify basic scripts to resolve performance problems and automate network administration tasks.
Employment Standards
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field from an accredited school or equivalent AND five (5) years of paid networking and security experience in a medium to large data environment;
Nine (9) years of progressive experience in a high level technical capacity for a medium to large organization with a structured IT department preferably in healthcare.
