About the State Fair of Texas
Since its inception in 1886, the State Fair of Texas has celebrated all things Texan by promoting agriculture, education, and community involvement through quality entertainment in a family-friendly environment.
- The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park;
- underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education;
and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
Ensure all Paint Shop operations are completed in compliance with all applicable safety codes and SFT standards and regulations;
maintain and repair all Painting Jobs and equipment including SFT buildings and grounds.
Assist Paint Shop with routine to moderately complex surface preparation, painting, and finishing tasks, applying a variety of methods, media, and techniques to both interior and exterior surfaces but not limited to rides, shows, tents, stables, stands, and any daily painting needs of the SFT grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
Essential Functions :
- Support Painting of premises and buildings for the maintenance of existing Maintenance Repairs.
- Under the direction of the Project Manager, install new Paint operations for SFT exhibits including all booths, stages, exhibits, and tents.
- Trouble and maintain painting on grounds. Assist with the dismantling of construction services after fair.
- Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape, and texturing tasks.
- Operates equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, and motorized lifts.
- Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining, and sealing.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs minor plaster repair, blending newly renovated wall surfaces with existing plaster.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying :
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Paint codes and standards, basic understanding of requirements, and other applicable systems.
- Ability to estimate basic project time and material quantity requirements.
- Knowledge of Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations affecting health and safety.
- Knowledge of Industry standards and specifications for public service for paint projects.
- Accepted safety standards and methods of painting activities.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to select, mix, and apply surface coatings which successfully match and / or restore historic interior or exterior surfaces.
- Skill in selecting and applying paint and associated products.
- Skill in applying coatings and / or caulking and completing repairs to exterior and interior surfaces.
- Skill in wood surface preparation, staining, and / or sealing techniques.
Work Schedules :
Varies depending on events.
Preferred Education and / or Experience :
- High School Diploma or higher level of education.
- Previous work experience as a Painter.
- Oral and written communication.
License or Certificate :
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED
- Reports to Maintenance
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions :
Working outdoors in various weather conditions such as extreme heat and on uneven and / or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.
Physical Conditions :
- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for
- Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Moving short and long distances to access office supplies, meet guests, perform duties within Fairgrounds, etc.
- Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
- Occasionally lift objects no more than 25 pounds unassisted.
