Summary
Supervises and participates in the compilation of ridership and / or operating statistical data to analyze adequacy of service and conduct ongoing monitoring of an assigned group of bus lines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Supervises and participates in the development of specific service modification proposals for bus service changes designed to remedy problems or improve service quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation, proofreading and approval of written public information materials, including public timetables, passenger notices and schedule information displays.
Develops and coordinates special notices for posting on NJ TRANSIT website.
- Supervises and participates in the outlining of data collection needs, and conducts field work to review service issues, collect data and develop route and schedule changes.
- Supervises and participates in the review, investigation and response to internal and external customer requests, suggestions and complaints.
- Supervises and participates in the review and updating of documents used by other NJ TRANSIT departments, such as route descriptions, bus operating statistics for contract services and bus stop by line information.
Prepares transportation bulletins to implement service changes, as necessary.
Attends and represents the Bus Service Planning Department’s interest at state, county, local and community meetings regarding issues affecting bus service.
Attends public and internal employee forums as required. Maintains contact with field operating locations and on-street supervisors to monitor bus service levels and ridership.
- Assists in the training of service planning staff with regards to key job tasks including ridership analysis, running time analysis, printed public information generation, and field observation / route familiarization.
- Performs other job related tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor or the Deputy General Manager of Bus Service Planning.

Education, Experience and Qualifications :
Minimum :
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Transportation, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or related field from a US Department of Education accredited college or university
- Experience with data collection and analysis, analyzing bus service, routes, schedules, or operations; experience in developing project work plans, schedules or timetables for specific implementation activities;
analysis of economic development trends, statistical analysis of population required.
Knowledge and Skills :
Essential :
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
