WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Design Project Manager, Aviation for our Reno, NV office. Be involved in projects with our Aviation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Our Aviation Team provides project / construction management, engineering and planning services for airports infrastructure including all aspects of aviation facilities and supports WSP's projects around the world.
The Aviation Team works on multiple projects simultaneously, in close coordination with other technical departments.
The Senior Design Project Manager, Aviation will be responsible for the development of business and successful execution of work for current and potential clients within a defined geography of the Aviation Market.
The person will be accountable for overall long-term growth in his / her defined geography commensurate with the long-term growth plan for the company in terms of the Aviation Market.
While the focus for this Senior Design Project Manager, Aviation will be aviation design opportunities and the execution and project management of design projects, he / she will be responsible for the marketing across all phases of service of the Aviation Market.

Your Impact
Financial / Operations
- Assists with the establishment and continued development of the strategic plan for attaining long-term geography goals including assisting Aviation Core Management, and Regional Manager(s) in acquisition needs and other corporate actions to support strategy.
- Assists Aviation Core Management, Regional Manager(s), AM(s), and Geography Business Development Leader(s) in preparing marketing budgets for the geography in terms of Aviation Market.
- Implements client relationship efforts within approved budget such as activities that lead to a broad understanding of a specific client’s upcoming capital program and named opportunities.
- Responsible for determining staffing needs or additional strategic / production hires within his / her defined geography.
Responsible for technical development of staff and succession development as appropriate.
Monitors and assures staff scheduling with appropriate production staff for project needs under his / her responsibility.
Works with Aviation Core Management, Regional Manager(s), AM(s), and Geography staff manager(s) to facilitate sharing of staff and workload distribution.
Marketing
- Works with Aviation Core Management, Regional Manager(s), AM(s), and Geography Business Development Leader(s) to identify and capitalize upon opportunities within the geographic marketplace.
- Assists with the preparation of an annual update to client-focus tactical action plans for identified clients within geographic marketplace.
- Cross-markets other WSP capabilities as appropriate.
Sales
- Assists in establishing geographic, aviation market goals commensurate with company goals for the Aviation Market.
- Establishes sales goals by client and prospect within the geography.
- Assists Aviation Core Management, Regional Manager(s), AM(s), and Geography Business Development Leader(s) in making Go / No Go decisions.
- Leads proposal and interview preparations, as appropriate.
- Leads client relationship efforts for major client(s) identified within geography, as appropriate.
Technical
- Technically competent to successfully perform on and deliver projects identified for pursuit in the Aviation Market, specifically for design, construction management and planning phases of service.
- Possess managerial and communication skills commensurate with needs of projects and relative to marketing, sales, and operational responsibilities defined herein.
- Skilled in managing project execution within scope, budget and schedule.
- Skilled in preparing scope for project, reviewing contract requirements of project, and developing appropriate budget / schedule for said project.
- Capable of working with other offices and other WSP staff to develop technical skills and experience of others.
- Skilled in initiating, organizing, and overseeing the preparation of asset management planning efforts.
- Capable of working with other WSP staff related to construction engineering efforts across WSP markets.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar field.
- Professional licensure, preferably licensed in the state(s) in which his / her geography lies.
- a minimum of 15 years of project management experience, ideally within the aviation industry.
- A minimum of seven (7) years' experience in engineering, construction management, and / or aviation.
- The applicant must have a thorough understanding of the market and business development aspects of the geography and Aviation Market.
- The applicant must have experience in marketing and supervision of technical work performed by others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- 15 years of aviation project management experience.
