ESCORT / DRIVER-SOM-(T208541) Description The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an Escort / Driver-SOM. As part of Live HealthSmart Alabama's mobile market initiative, this position entails : 1- driving and operating a heavy duty truck and enclosed cargo trailer; 2- verifying loads for accuracy and transporting food and materials to various communities and neighborhoods; 3-loading and unloading goods; and 4-complying with safe driving practices and basic truck and trailer maintenance. Key Duties, Primary Responsibilities To transport lab staff, supplies, and materials to and from the various sites for assigned research project To assist with the loading / unloading of vehicle at all sites To provide transportation services in a safe, timely and courteous manner as appropriate To perform daily operational check of assigned vehicle and report any issues to management To maintain a good driving record Comply with safe driving practices while driving and operating a heavy duty truck and trailer Inspect truck and trailer and perform basic truck and trailer maintenance Pick up food, goods and materials; verify loads for accuracy, and deliver them as instructed Load and unload food, goods and materials Complete and verify paperwork for accuracy Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics : Clean driving record No DUI / DWI convictions in past seven years Ability to lift 80 pounds Experience driving a heavy duty truck and towing an enclosed cargo trailer Hourly Pay Range $14.00 - $18.7 Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Currently licensed with a Driver's License from the State of Alabama required Preferred Qualifications : CDL - class A, B or C; certificate from an accredited CDL school Primary Location University Job Category Facilities Organization 311401800 Med - Preventive Medicine Employee Status RegularShift : Day / 1st ShiftWork Arrangement (final schedule to be determined by the department / hiring manager) : Onsite
